Our gifted and talented students deserve a better deal
Learning how to teach gifted and talented children isn’t compulsory in most pre-service teaching degrees, so that means educators may well be on the back foot the minute they step into their careers.
“Our country does not have a national policy on gifted education. We fail to put valuable resources into initial teacher education (ITE), so we are ill-equipping educators before they walk into the classroom. No-one is asking why," Melinda Gindy says.
