Having originally trained as a primary teacher three decades ago, David Irwin now manages the Sustainability and Outdoor Education Programmes at Ara Institute of Canterbury where he has been engaged in teaching and research related to learning in the outdoors since the late 1990s. He also writes on the side. Irwin is one of the key-note speakers at the upcoming National PENZ/OENZ/NZHEA Conference in July.
