Since 1981, Musica Viva Australia has been inspiring students and supporting teachers through creative, curriculum-aligned music experiences that nurture creativity, build cultural understanding and help students develop a lifelong relationship with music.

In 2027, our program continues to reach more than 130,000 students through live, interactive performances designed to engage and inspire learners.

‘The performance was a fantastic culmination of learning. We loved having live music at our school for the first time in a very long time.’
– St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, QLD

Our touring performances are created specifically for school audiences and feature some of Australia’s finest musicians. Each show offers a different way for students to experience music, culture and creativity; from exploring global musical traditions and cultural identity to improvisation, storytelling, movement and composition.

Interactive and inclusive, the performances invite students to participate, listen, move, sing, create and discover new ways to connect with music and the world around them.

MVAIS is more than a one-off incursion. Every booking includes at least a term’s worth of curriculum-aligned teaching resources, developed for both generalist classroom teachers and specialist music educators.

Available to the whole school in perpetuity, resources support teachers to prepare students for their performance and extend learning long afterwards; helping make music part of classroom learning throughout the term.

The Education Resource Platform provides teachers with lesson activities, instructional videos, and cultural context, supporting learning across the curriculum as well as classroom music.

The resources are designed to make it easy to build on the live performance and explore its themes through areas including English, Humanities and Social Sciences, Dance, Visual Arts, Drama, Media Arts and more.

‘The resources were among the best I have come across. They were easy to adapt across the entire primary school age and ability range, and were highly enjoyed by the students. This is such a valuable tool in the classroom for teaching students about a range of instruments and how they work.’
– Sacred Heart Primary School, ACT

The program is complemented by a suite of professional development opportunities designed to build teacher confidence and capability, regardless of musical experience. This includes show-specific webinars, as well as free online and in-person workshops throughout the year, offering practical ideas and strategies that teachers can put straight into practice.

All PD offerings are aligned to AITSL Professional Standards and are practical, accessible, and designed with busy educators in mind.

For teachers looking to further develop their classroom music skills, the 12-week Music Education Skills for the Primary Classroom course provides more in-depth professional learning. Designed especially for generalist classroom teachers, the course builds practical skills and confidence in teaching music and is offered separately from our free PD opportunities.

‘This course has significantly enhanced my confidence as a beginning teacher, giving me concrete strategies and resources to engage students musically and integrate learning across curriculum areas.’
– 2025 MESPC Course Participant

At $10.50 per student, MVAIS is an affordable way for schools to make music part of learning. Through our Equal Music initiative, financial assistance is available to small and low-ICSEA schools, as well as schools experiencing financial or geographical barriers.

This helps ensure that students across Australia – including those in regional and remote communities – can access enriching live music experiences.

Through live performance, ongoing classroom learning and support for teachers, Musica Viva Australia In Schools creates meaningful opportunities for students to experience the social, developmental and educational benefits of quality music education.
