We are seeking an ambitious, inspirational, and experienced Head of English to lead our successful English department at a thriving secondary school in the Thamesmead area.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate English specialist with a strong track record of raising attainment and delivering outstanding teaching across Key Stages 3-5. The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader committed to academic excellence, curriculum innovation, and ensuring every student develops a love of literature and language.

The Role

The Head of English will:

  • Lead and manage the English department across KS3, KS4, and KS5
  • Drive high standards of teaching, learning, and achievement
  • Develop an engaging and ambitious English curriculum
  • Support and develop staff through coaching and professional development
  • Monitor student progress and implement effective intervention strategies
  • Promote a culture of high expectations and inclusive practice
  • The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • A degree in English or a related subject
  • Proven experience teaching English at KS5
  • Strong leadership or middle leadership experience within a secondary setting
  • A track record of improving outcomes and student engagement
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
