Nowra High School is a vibrant, inclusive co-educational secondary school serving students from Year 7 to Year 12. As part of the dynamic public education system, we celebrate diversity and warmly welcome students from all backgrounds and cultures, creating a supportive community where every student can thrive and achieve their full potential. Our diverse student population of 792 students including 186 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students (23%) and 64 students from non- English-speaking backgrounds (8.5%). Our school has a growing Inclusion and Support faculty with 9 classes in 2026.

The Head Teacher English role leads a dedicated faculty that nurtures students functional and critical literacies to support students to “learn about the power, value and art of the English language for communication, learning and enjoyment.” (NESA)

General Selection Criteria
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach English 7-12 and English Extension 1 and 2
- Highly visible leadership with proven ability to lead and inspire staff to strengthen and build capacity in a diverse faculty with a focus on quality teaching and learning practices for whole school and community engagement.
- Demonstrated expertise in leading others to develop inclusive English learning experiences that engage and challenge all students through high quality, evidence-based, student centred and differentiated teaching and learning programs.4. Strong interpersonal and organisational skills with the ability to lead staff in developing and embedding effective faculty systems and processes to enhance student engagement and improved outcomes.5. Proven ability to collaborate strategically to lead, manage and evaluate initiatives aligned to the School Excellence Plan, strengthening whole-school coherence, student engagement and improved learning outcomes for all students.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
