Position Information

Fairfield High School, enrolment 1100 students, including 96% from a non-English speaking background, is a comprehensive high school supported by Resource Allocation Model Equity Funding. A well-established Intensive English Centre is located onsite as part of the school with a majority of the students coming from refugee backgrounds. The Intensive English Centre currently has an enrolment of approximately 180 students. The school has a balance of early career and experienced staff who focus on the delivery of a structured curriculum catering for the needs of individual students. This position will be based within Fairfield Intensive English Centre.

Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Approval to teach secondary English as an Additional Language or currently completing or currently enrolled in an approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as an Additional Language (secondary) as recognised by the NSW Department of Education

  2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of EAL/D pedagogy and the ability to effectively apply these within the context of the Intensive English Programs (IEP). Demonstrated understanding of the wellbeing needs of students from a non-English speaking background and from a low socio-economic status, particularly refugees, to support their educational outcomes

  3. Demonstrated capacity to engage and support newly arrived EAL/D learners, including refugee students who are high potential/gifted, have disabilities, are neurodivergent, or have additional learning needs.

  4. Demonstrated capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively as a member of a team across the IEC and Fairfield High School to support whole school programs and practices

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
