Position Information

Evans High School, a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school has served the South Blacktown community since 1973. The school caters for over 800 students (70% Language Other than English and 28% EAL/D learners) and provides a broad curriculum, including the full range of academic subjects as well as a number of vocational education pathways to ensure all students have the opportunity to achieve their career pathways.  

The EAL/D and Learning & Support Faculty is a collaborative team dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs. The faculty consists of 9 staff members, including Learning and Support teachers, EAL/D trained teachers, School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs), and staff delivering targeted small-group withdrawal programs. Together, the team works to ensure all students can access the curriculum and achieve their learning potential.

The position involves playing a key role in supporting students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds to develop their English language proficiency and successfully engage with all areas of the curriculum. This position involves a combination of classroom teaching, withdrawal support, team teaching, and individualised instruction for EAL/D students across various year groups.

Specific Selection Criteria
1) Approval to teach students with English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) or currently undertaking approved EAL/D qualifications with the NSW Department of Education
2) Demonstrated understanding of EAL/D pedagogy and the use of data to differentiate teaching and assessment to support students across varying phases of English language development
3) Strong organisational skills and the capacity to work collaboratively with classroom teachers to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate adjusted teaching programs for EAL/D learners
4)Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families and external agencies, and contribute to whole-school wellbeing and inclusion programs
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

 

 

Special Notes

If applicable, engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the Teacher English as an additional language or dialect qualifications as recognised by the NSW Department of Education which must be completed within 12 months.
