Position Information
Kariong Mountains High School (enrolment 408 students, including 12% Aboriginal students) opened in 2010 and had its first cohort of Year 12 students in 2014. Approximately 70% of the students live in the Kariong community and 28% come from the Mountains District. There is a strong commitment to holistic education and well-being initiatives are utilised to support student success. Building on successful transition programs and strong relationships between students and staff, additional initiatives to support student wellbeing and learning have been built into the timetable across all years. The school welcomed the ngiyang support unit in 2025.
There is a strong commitment to building cultural relationships between our Aboriginal students and the wider community. Making connections for students is a focus of the Aboriginal check-in class and curricular activities planned throughout each year. There is an ongoing commitment to have every student enrolling at Kariong Mountains High school to leave with a pathway to achievement. Successful connections with surrounding industry and the EPP (Employment Pathway Program) have built a strong vocational education curriculum, providing opportunities for students to experience a diverse employment field.

- Highly visible and approachable leadership skills, fostering a culture of teamwork, trust, and shared responsibility within the faculty and across the school to drive excellence in teaching and learning.
- Expertise in leading the implementation and evaluation of innovative, high-quality teaching and learning programs with a thorough understanding of the 7-12 English syllabus requirements, promoting high expectations, engagement, and equity for a diverse range of students.
- Strong organisational and management skills to effectively coordinate faculty systems and processes and build the capacity of staff, generating a shared vision of excellence that enhances student learning.
- Demonstrated ability to lead curriculum monitoring and assessment practices that invite evidence-based pedagogy through the strategic use of data to inform teaching, ensuring measurable improvement in student learning outcomes.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
