To excel in this Guidance Officer role, you will need strong interpersonal and communication skills, a deep understanding of student wellbeing and mental health, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
As a Guidance Officer, you will provide expert advice and support to students, parents, and school staff to enhance student wellbeing, engagement, and learning outcomes. You will play a critical role in delivering counselling services, developing intervention strategies, and supporting students' personal, social, emotional, and educational development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counselling to students to address personal, social, emotional, and educational challenges.
- Develop and implement proactive and preventative programs to support student wellbeing and mental health.
- Collaborate with school staff, parents, and external agencies to design and implement tailored intervention strategies for students.
- Conduct assessments and provide advice on students' learning needs, including cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioural aspects.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of school policies and practices that promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Provide advice and professional development to school staff on student wellbeing, mental health, and behaviour management strategies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counselling sessions, assessments, and interventions in line with departmental policies.
- Promote inclusive practices that respect and celebrate cultural diversity, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.
- Work collaboratively with families and communities from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds to enhance student outcomes.
