Position Information

Tirriwirri School is a located on Ngambri and Ngunnawal lands in Queanbeyan on the border of 
NSW and the ACT. Close to Canberra, the school is only 10kms from Canberra International 
airport and is only a short drive to the Snowy Mountains or to the South Coast. 
Tirriwirri School is a P1 school which caters for students with moderate or severe intellectual 
disabilities, physical disability, language or sensory impairment and/or neurodivergent. The 
school currently has 37 students in K-12 including 6 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander 
students and 12 EAL/D students.

providers. 

Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach special education, with experience supporting students with intellectual disabilities, complex learning needs, Autism, and behavioural or emotional challenges, including effective classroom management of challenging behaviours.
 
2. Demonstrated ability to engage in the collaborative culture of the school through collaborative curriculum planning and a commitment to contribute positively to the whole school vision for improvement. 
 
3. Demonstrated ability to design and deliver differentiated, data-informed programs that use explicit teaching, evidence-based practice, and high expectations to improve academic, social, and behavioural outcomes.
 
4. Demonstrated organisational and interpersonal skills, and the capacity to collaborate with students, staff, parents/carers and external providers to plan, deliver and review evidence-based, personalised learning and support plans that engage students with complex learning needs.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
