Position Information
Colo High School is a proud, comprehensive high school. It has an outstanding record of achievement in academic, sporting and cultural pursuits. The school community is situated in the semi-rural Hawkesbury area and approximately 20 minutes from Penrith. The school serves communities situated in the semi-rural Hawkesbury area and was established in 1978. In 2026 there were approximately 771 students including 84 students who identify as Aboriginal. The school plan reflects Colo High School’s willingness to support student growth and attainment, Effective Teaching & Collaborative Practice and Student Agency.
Colo High School will introduce their first Support class in 2027. This will be our first Support teaching position and is for students with primarily an Autism diagnosis and a multi-categorical class. A specialised room and bathroom facilities are being established and the successful applicant will be supported by the Learning and Support Team and join this faculty. All students in the foundation class will be in Year 7. The advertised inclusive education position will commence at the start of 2027.
Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach Special Education and/or demonstrated experience teaching students with autism, intellectual disabilities and complex behavioural, social and learning needs within diverse and inclusive educational settings.
2. Capacity to establish a new Support Class by designing and implementing structures, routines and processes to support evidence-based practice and high expectations to improve students' academic, social, emotional, behavioural and wellbeing outcomes within a safe, inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.
3. Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate high-quality, evidence-based learning programs that address diverse student needs, through effective and culturally responsive partnerships with students, parents/carers, colleagues, support staff, external agencies and the wider school community, including Aboriginal families and community.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
