Position Information
West Wallsend High School is a proud comprehensive Year 7 to Year 12 community focused school. They support and encourage students to achieve their full potential in an inclusive and caring environment based on the core values of respect, responsibility and excellence. The school is located on the land of the Pambalong of Awabakal Country on the western side of Newcastle as part of the Lake Macquarie North Principals Network. The school has an enrolment of approximately 660 students with 16 percent of students identifying as Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander. West Wallsend High school has a tradition of strong parent and community involvement working together with the P&C and the Kumaridha Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG). There are strong connections with the four partner primary schools as part of the Sugarloaf Community of Schools.
The school has seven inclusive education classes and are dedicated to the provision of personalised learning and support for students with disability and or enhanced needs. A range of targeted programmes are on offer including innovative initiatives for high potential and gifted students. The school places are concentrated focus on developing aspirational learners with strong vocational education opportunities students engage with a range of opportunities in sport creative and performing arts leadership cultural initiatives and stem.
General Selection Criteria
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Proven ability to innovate and inspire a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement aligned to Our Plan for NSW Public Education. 2. Demonstrated ability as a visible and decisive leader who cultivates a culture of belonging through authentic connections and inclusive practice.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is P4 for 2026.
