Position Information
South Sydney High School is a comprehensive, co-educational high school with a strong learning culture, situated in Maroubra with an enrolment of 800 students. Care, Opportunity and Success underpins our philosophy, where our staff have high expectations of themselves and all students.
The school caters to the learning and wellbeing needs of a diverse socio-economic and multicultural community where 44% of our students have a language background other than English. South Sydney offers a well-rounded, balanced education that offers outstanding opportunities through to the HSC and beyond, including well-established student leadership programs, a dynamic Student Representative Council (SRC) and an active Prefect body.
2027 sees the commencement of an Inclusive Learning Centre at South Sydney High School.
Co-curricular activities provide opportunities for students to excel and develop their talents. This includes: an extensive music program, a High Potential and Gifted Education Program, an established volunteering program, Opportunity Programs, enrichment opportunities in Visual Arts, Drama, and Public Speaking, a purpose-designed Student Services Centre, and students participating in both a range of recreational sports and knockout sporting competitions.
South Sydney High School works towards creating a framework that encompasses the broad range of curriculum requirements in each KLA and embeds quality teaching practices.
Teachers are given the opportunity to use evidence-based teaching practices in their classrooms to support successful student learning across a broad range of areas. Students are able to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills effectively across all KLA's and Big Picture Academies to ensure individual success.

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
Approval to teach Special Education and/or demonstrated experience and expertise in leading a faculty that effectively meets student needs, including intellectual disabilities and complex communication and behaviour needs.
- Proven experience in planning and implementing the physical setup of educational spaces tailored to inclusive education, ensuring accessibility and suitability for a diverse student cohort.
- Ability to lead and supervise staff members with diverse skill sets to build a cohesive, collaborative, and specialised inclusive education team within the school community.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to foster partnerships with staff, families, and external agencies to support student learning and inclusion.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
