Position Information
Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus is a vibrant 7–12 learning community and part of the Hastings Secondary College, working collaboratively across both campuses to provide high expectations, purposeful teaching and strong pathways for every learner. With approximately 25% of students identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, the campus values cultural identity, belonging and inclusive practice. Students benefit from cross-campus Stage 6 subject offerings and a strong range of pathway opportunities, including VET and School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs).
The Head Teacher Special Education will provide strategic and relational leadership to strengthen inclusive practice, Learning and Support and student wellbeing. Working collaboratively with staff, families, students and College colleagues, the successful applicant will build staff capacity, strengthen personalised support and ensure students with diverse learning and support needs are known, included and challenged to achieve their potential. The role provides an opportunity to contribute to the strategic directions of the College while leading meaningful improvement in student outcomes and belonging.

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, Approval to teach Special Education and demonstrated expertise in meeting the complex learning, communication, behavioural and wellbeing needs of students with disability.
- Capacity to lead, develop and support staff in designing, implementing and evaluating differentiated, evidence-based teaching and learning programs that improve student outcomes.
- Demonstrated capacity to contribute as an effective member of the executive team, fostering collaboration, shared responsibility and whole-school improvement.
- Proven experience in creating inclusive learning environments and leading partnerships with families and external agencies to support successful transitions from school to post-school pathways.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
