Position Information
Brisbane Water Secondary College (BWSC) is proudly located on Darkinjung land. Both campuses sit within the beautiful Brisbane Water environment surrounded by waterways, beaches, mountains and national parks. BWSC is a dynamic comprehensive 7-12 College established to provide inclusive educational experiences in learning environments that cater to the unique needs of middle years learners and senior learners.
The middle school located in Umina has an enrolment of 800 students who are learners in Years 7-9 of which 12% are Aboriginal. The Umina Campus also has eight support classes specialising in IM, Autism, multicategorical and ILS(MH). Our inclusive focus provides high quality learning programs with key strategies for building skills, knowledge and understanding in literacy and numeracy, enrichment, creative and performing arts, targeted sports and leadership. As well, the large College farm, located on the Umina Campus, provides unique opportunities for all College students in Agriculture and Primary Industries.
In 2023 we conducted a situational analysis and self assessment. There was much to celebrate in the analysis, however we identified some clear areas for improvement and innovation in the 2024-2027 planning cycle. This includes further development of our Aboriginal Learning and Engagement Centre (ALEC) around ongoing improvement in achievement for our First Nations students. Attendance remains a key area that we evaluate ongoing in terms of systems and practices, while recognising its vital role in students' success into the future. Using data to inform practice, and developing the skills of staff in data analysis, will ensure that teaching and learning planning and delivery is evidence based and developed to meet and monitor the learning needs, progress and achievement of each student. We will continue to enhance our administration, procedures and communication across the College to ensure students have a deep sense of belonging. Strategically building a learning culture that is inclusive, innovative, supportive and challenging will ensure that all students are catered for and that curriculum and assessment is fit for purpose, rigorous and supported.
BWSC is a proud member of the Brisbane Water Learning Community (BWLC) that includes five partner primary schools. The BWLC share a commitment to the vision of a united cohesive K-12 curriculum delivery through quality teaching is the alliance mandate. We work together with Koorana local AECG to co-create and collaborate to ensure all our students learn, grow and belong.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach PD/Health/PE, Sport Lifestyle and Recreation/Physical Activity and Sports Studies, and Community & Family Studies.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member and contribute to faculty and whole school programs and initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to foster student engagement through inclusive, evidenced based teaching practices that respond to the diverse needs of learners.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
