About Us:

Atherton State School is located in Tropical North Queensland on the picturesque Atherton Tableland External link approximately 75 km west of Cairns.

Industry in the area consists of primary production and tourism. There are stunning rainforests, volcanic formations, lakes and views across rolling pastures to the highest mountain in Queensland, Mt Bartle Frere.

Our school opened in 1891 and moved to new facilities constructed at its present location in 1985. We offer a comprehensive education to students from Prep to Year 6 and take pride in the development of young Australians who are capable, confident and courteous.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the Special Education Program, ensuring the delivery of high-quality advice, support and targeted interventions for students with disability.
  • Provide expert guidance to school leaders, teachers and staff to develop and implement effective reasonable adjustments, inclusive practices and individualised supports.
  • Coordinate case management and specialist services for students requiring substantial or extensive adjustments, including collaboration with external agencies and professional services.
  • Develop and maintain effective systems and partnerships to monitor student progress, manage disability data and reporting requirements, and engage families, government agencies and community organisations.
  • Contribute to whole-school leadership and strategic planning while effectively managing human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources to achieve inclusive education goals.
