Position Information
Walgett Community College Primary School (WCCPS) is a P-6 school with an enrolment of 99% Aboriginal students, approximately 130 students K-6 and up to 20 children per session in preschool. Walgett has a population of approximately 2300 and is situated in a remote rural context approximately 280 kilometres north of Dubbo beside the Namoi and Barwon rivers.
The school is part of the Connected Communities strategy and is committed to providing a high-quality education for all students through a diverse, relevant curriculum focusing on literacy, numeracy with strong student and community engagement. The school is well resourced and has an extensive staff complement to deliver strong learning and wellbeing outcomes for all students.
The school has embedded, data informed systems and collaborative processes including explicit, responsive evidenced based teaching and learning programs. A continuous learning culture has been established through consistent whole, stage and individual professional development linked to identified student need.
The school is focused on working in collaboration with the whole school community to create an educationally connected school community through a culture of high expectations for all. Walgett Community College Public School is a Connected Communities School. The school will work in partnership with the local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and the local community to achieve the key accountabilities of the role.
The deputy principal is accountable for leading teaching and learning across P-6, developing self and others, leading improvement, innovation and change across the school, engaging and working with the community and leading the daily organisation and ongoing management of the school. Demonstrated capacity to meet these accountabilities within a complex school setting is a requirement of this position.
General Selection Criteria
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary,
1. Demonstrated leadership experience to meet key responsibilities, managing and prioritising daily operational decisions to meet the needs of all stakeholders across the school, including preschool and MC units.
2. Demonstrated leadership experience to lead, monitor and develop middle leadership to enhance explicit teaching pedagogical practices and engaged, meaningful learning across the curriculum for all students.
3. Demonstrated leadership experience working collaboratively and cohesively with staff, parents, students, and the wider community, positively partnering with all stakeholders to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes for students aligned to the Connected Community Strategy.
4. Demonstrated leadership experience to lead, develop and sustain inclusive, policy-aligned practices that promote positive behaviour and respectful relationships across the school, supporting students, staff and families.
5. Demonstrated leadership experience to improve school attendance based on increased student engagement, positive family relationships, community engagement and an understanding of Aboriginal cultural expectations.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
