Position Information
Walgett Community College Primary School (WCCPS) is a P-6 school with an enrolment of 99% Aboriginal students, approximately 130 students K-6 and up to 20 children per session in preschool. Walgett has a population of approximately 2300 and is situated in a remote rural context approximately 280 kilometres north of Dubbo beside the Namoi and Barwon rivers.
The school is part of the Connected Communities strategy and is committed to providing a high-quality education for all students through a diverse, relevant curriculum focusing on literacy, numeracy with strong student and community engagement. The school is well resourced and has an extensive staff complement to deliver strong learning and wellbeing outcomes for all students.
The school has embedded, data informed systems and collaborative processes including explicit, responsive evidenced based teaching and learning programs. A continuous learning culture has been established through consistent whole, stage and individual professional development linked to identified student need.
The school is focused on working in collaboration with the whole school community to create an educationally connected school community through a culture of high expectations for all. Walgett Community College Public School is a Connected Communities School. The school will work in partnership with the local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and the local community to achieve the key accountabilities of the role.
The Assistant Principal Mentor will lead the support for early career permanent, temporary and casual teachers in Connected Communities schools. The Assistant Principal Mentor will support teachers to strengthen their practice through an explicit, structured program of professional development, coaching, classroom observation, demonstration, team teaching and individualised professional feedback. The Assistant Principal Mentor role will work closely with other executive to strengthen a positive performance and development culture across the school, aligned to the values of the Connected Communities strategy. The Assistant Principal Mentor does not have an allocated teaching timetable, however, will work directly in classrooms supporting other teachers for at least half the teaching load of an executive teacher.
While the Assistant Principal Mentor does not replace the supervisory function of existing executive, particularly in relation to teacher accreditation, they will play a key role in supporting teachers with accreditation requirements.

In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Demonstrated deep knowledge and understanding of the value of culture, cultural identity and linguistic background regarding the education of students from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, with successful experience in delivering innovative strategies to create inclusive teaching and learning practices and opportunities that lead to high quality learning outcomes for Aboriginal students
2. Demonstrated successful experience in supporting teaching colleagues, particularly early career teachers, to improve teaching practice and student outcomes
3. Demonstrated deep knowledge and understanding of the NESA requirements for accreditation at the level of Proficient Teacher, including for temporary and casual teachers
4. Demonstrated capacity to build professional relationships, deliver professional feedback and lead professional learning leading to improved teaching practice and student outcomes
5. Deep knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Connected Communities Strategy and the NSW AECG/Department of Education Partnership Agreement ‘Walking Together Working Together’
Conditions
Approval to teach K-6. An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
