Job Title: Complex SEN Teaching Assistant

The Role:

A compassionate, resilient and dedicated Complex SEN Teaching Assistant supporting children and young people aged 11-19 with complex physical, learning, sensory, communication and behavioural needs.

You will provide one-to-one and small-group support across specialist schools, alternative provisions and mainstream SEN settings, helping students access learning, develop independence and build confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

* 1:1 & Small Group Support - Provide tailored support to help students access learning and participate fully in school life.

* Learning Support - Work alongside teachers to adapt activities and resources to meet individual needs and abilities.

* Individual Support Plans - Follow and contribute to EHCPs, IEPs, behaviour plans and other individualised support plans.

* Communication Support - Use appropriate strategies such as Makaton, PECS, visual timetables and communication boards where required.

* Sensory & Regulation Support - Support students with sensory and emotional needs using appropriate regulation strategies and activities.

* Behaviour Support - Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to maintain a safe, calm and supportive environment.

* Personal Care & Physical Support - Where required, provide support with personal care, mobility, feeding and other physical needs in line with individual care plans.

* Emotional & Pastoral Support - Build positive relationships, providing reassurance and encouragement to develop confidence and self-esteem.

* Teamwork & Safeguarding - Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, parents, carers and external professionals while maintaining high safeguarding standards.

Requirements:

* Experience working with children or young people with SEN, complex needs, autism, physical disabilities, communication difficulties or challenging behaviour.

* A patient, compassionate and resilient approach, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.

* Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a genuine passion for supporting young people.

* Knowledge of SEN, safeguarding and positive behaviour management.

* Enhanced DBS check is mandatory. (We can help advise on this.)

* Specialist training such as Team Teach, MAPA, Makaton, PECS, Autism, Moving & Handling or First Aid would be advantageous.

* Ability to adapt quickly to different schools, students and environments.
