SEN Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs - Specialist School - Merton SM4

Are you an experienced, caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role supporting children with complex additional needs?

We are recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Merton SM4 area, working with pupils aged 3-19 with severe and complex learning difficulties, PMLD, Autism, physical and sensory disabilities and complex health needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about specialist education and wants to make a genuine difference to pupils' learning, development and independence.

The Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex needs.

  • Support learning, communication, social development and independence.

  • Work within the Early Years and wider specialist school environment.

  • Support pupils with PMLD, Autism, physical disabilities and sensory needs.

  • Assist with sensory, play-based and personalised learning activities.

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and communication.

  • Assist with personal care, feeding and mobility where required.

  • Follow individual EHCPs, care plans and support strategies.

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, nurses and other professionals.

  • Monitor pupil engagement, wellbeing and progress.

  • Help maintain a safe, calm and nurturing learning environment.

  • Who We're Looking For

    The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN.

  • Experience supporting pupils with complex needs, PMLD or Autism is highly desirable.

  • A patient, compassionate and adaptable approach.

  • Confidence supporting children with physical, sensory or communication needs.

  • Good understanding of individualised and sensory-based learning.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Confidence supporting personal care where required.

  • Experience with Makaton, PECS, AAC, sensory strategies or moving and handling would be beneficial.

  • Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.

  • You don't necessarily need a formal teaching qualification. If you have strong hands-on experience supporting children with complex SEN and are passionate about helping pupils develop, we'd like to hear from you.
