Position Information

Yamba Public School is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Assistant Principal to join our leadership team. The successful applicant will lead a stage level group of teachers and actively contribute to the school's executive team, sharing leadership responsibilities to support the ongoing improvement and success of the school community.

Located in the popular holiday town of Yamba at the mouth of the Clarence River in Northern NSW, Yamba Public School serves a vibrant and diverse community. In 2026, the school has an enrolment of approximately 285 students across 13 classes, including a Special Education (IO/AU) support class. Our Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) places the school in the 'slightly advantaged' category, reflecting a varied socio-economic student body. Approximately 21% of our students identify as Aboriginal, supported by a full-time Aboriginal Education Officer.

Our teaching staff includes 13 classroom teachers, three Assistant Principals, and an Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction (APC&I), all committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Additional support is provided by dedicated Student Learning Support Officers (SLSOs).

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary 
1.Demonstrated cultural understanding and commitment to building respectful and meaningful partnerships with the Aboriginal community with experience in integrating Aboriginal perspectives and cultural knowledge into school leadership and curriculum to support positive educational outcomes for Aboriginal students and the wider school community.

2. Demonstrated ability to lead High Potential and Gifted Education initiatives to support learners to improve student outcomes, strengthen student voice and build staff capacity.

3. Proven leadership capacity in managing effective behaviour strategies through the school wellbeing initiatives, attendance and learning support processes

4. Capacity to build, inspire and mentor staff to implement future learning and innovative pedagogy using an integrated approach to curriculum delivery and to maximise student engagement and learning. 

 
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
