Behaviour Mentor / Teaching Assistant - SEMH Through School

Location: Lewisham, South London Start Date: Next Term Pay: £100-£118 per day

We are currently recruiting committed and compassionate Behaviour Mentors / Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEMH through school in Lewisham, supporting pupils across both Primary and Secondary phases.

This rewarding role is ideal for someone who is resilient, reflective, and motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of young people who face social, emotional and behavioural challenges.

The Role:

You will play a key part in supporting pupils to engage positively with learning by providing consistent, informed and empathetic support. Responsibilities include:

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Delivering 1:1 and small‑group interventions focused on emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs, trauma histories and complex behaviours
  • Using effective de‑escalation and behaviour‑management strategies
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and external professionals
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive and structured learning environment
  • The Ideal Candidate:

    We are keen to hear from candidates who have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with additional needs and challenging behaviour (education, PRU, youth work, care or similar settings)
  • Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach
  • Resilience and the ability to remain consistent under pressure
  • A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable children and young people
  • Full‑time availability from next term
