Position Information

Lurnea Public School has a student enrolment of 460 students ranging from Preschool to Year 6 from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, including 27 Aboriginal students. 78% of students come from a language background other than English.  The school is located in South Western Suburbs of Sydney and has a Family and Occupational Index (FOEI) of 170. 

Lurnea Public School recognises quality learning programs begin in our preschool where the foundation for wellbeing, family engagement and quality teaching and learning are paramount in supporting lifelong learning. The school benefits from the opportunity of a Support Unit to cater for students with additional learning needs. The Support Unit provides a service to students with intellectual disabilities, autism and a range of other learning needs. Staff work collaboratively to review data and strategically design, plan and implement quality differentiated teaching and learning programs.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
1. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with a demonstrated ability to lead and implement whole-school programs in literacy and numeracy, using explicit teaching and differentiated strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
2. Proven capacity to collaborate effectively within a leadership team, driving whole-school initiatives aligned with strategic goals while mentoring and motivating teachers to enhance High Potential Gifted Education (HPGE).
3. Demonstrated ability to analyse and use evidence-based data to inform practices that support student wellbeing, including the implementation of proactive behaviour management strategies, fostering positive relationships, and building a safe, inclusive school culture.
 


 

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
