About the Role

The Assistant Director of Student Development primary focus is strengthening the Senior School’s House based pastoral system, behaviour follow-up, student support coordination and relational culture. The role works vertically through the House structure to ensure that students are known, followed up and supported through clear, consistent and dependable pastoral practice. 

The role is concerned with the operational coherence of House and pastoral practice. It supports Heads of Student House in responding to day-to-day and emerging student matters, including behaviour, attendance, engagement, and belonging. The role carries delegated authority to coordinate and direct pastoral follow-up in consultation with the Director of Student Development. It helps ensure that agreed actions, communications, meetings and support processes are followed through in ways that strengthen continuity of care and confidence in the House system. 

About You

  • Experience in the care, support and development of students or young people in a school environment
  • Strong understanding of House based pastoral care, relational practice and the importance of belonging, accountability and continuity in student development
  • Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive and confidential matters with sound judgement, discretion and professionalism
  • Experience supporting or leading teams, including the ability to guide colleagues through complex student matters, behaviour follow-up and pastoral response
  • Strong communication skills with students, families and colleagues, including the capacity to manage difficult conversations constructively
  • Ability to coordinate meetings, actions, records and follow-up processes with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Capacity to use student information appropriately to guide action, monitor follow-up and strengthen pastoral support
  • Commitment to child safety, safeguarding, inclusion and the School’s Anglican ethos 
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with Directors, Assistant Directors, Heads of Student House, specialist colleagues and administration teams
  • A proactive, flexible and relational approach to leadership, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic school environment.

  • Appropriate qualifications
  • A valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People Card
  • A current National Police Check
  • Full working rights within Australia.
