Who is it for?

This bundle will suit young people who are learning to identify and mange their own emotions and understand the emotions of others whilst working towards positive, effective relationships. It is ideal for older students in Life Skills, Transition Education and Vocational programs such as VCE VM Personal Development Unit 1.

What is emotional intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is a concept that is often used in schools and workplaces to support people working together effectively in teams and groups. It is a notional measurement of the ability of people to understand and use their knowledge of emotions to manage situations effectively. Emotional intelligence has been written about by many researchers and writers, particularly Daniel Goleman who developed a model with four domains of emotional intelligence:

  1. Self awareness – learning to identify and understand own emotions
  2. Self management – learning to manage and utilise own emotions
  3. Social awareness – becoming aware of the emotions of others and responding to them effectively
  4. Relationship management – using knowledge of emotions to build positive relationships with other people

What's inside?

There are five posters included in the bundle:

  1. Emotions – vocabulary for commonly used emotions words, illustrated with fun and engaging cartoon images
  2. Emotional intelligence – the four domains of EI, each with a cartoon style illustration
  3. Emotional intelligence domains – the four domains explained simply in table format
  4. Know the signs of stress – physical and mental signs of stress
  5. Tips to manage anger – easy to implement anger management tips for young people

Task Cards:

There are 2 x 4 information cards explaining the four domains of EI. One set uses student friendly, easy reading language and the other uses higher level language.

There are 20 scenario based task cards which are written in easy reading style, each including a simple scenario which leads students to choose the best option for managing the situation or challenge, based on their knowledge of emotions.

Action Plans:

There are 2 action plan printables included. Use the action plans with the task cards to guide student responses. Students read the task cards, choose possible options and decide on the best solution. They identify the emotions the people in the scenario are experiencing, and make predictions about what might happen next and what is the best choice to make.

Emotional intelligence at work / school printables:

There are two easy reading printables to support students learning to identify and name emotions. Read, discuss and solve the 2 scenario based printables by choosing the best emotion to describe how the person might feel.
