Resource Description

Resume planner and writing challenge for teens and young adults in life skills, vocational major, careers and transition programs. This is resume writing challenge is written as a one hour activity, designed to be appealing and engaging for young people who may have shorter attention spans - although of course you may wish to spend more time with your students adding and refining details. The resource has been designed to be motivating for students who are interested in short duration, high impact learning tasks where they can achieve a completed task in a single session.

 

The focus of this resource is on working quickly but carefully and including only the key sections needed for a basic resume:

  • Personal details
  • Work experience
  • Education
  • Referees

It is written in teen-friendly language and is designed to be inclusive and pragmatic about writing a resume for students who may have failed a subject or course, or who do not have any work experience to include.

It has some text which is easy for teens to read, and some brief sections where writing is required.

What's inside?

This is a 15 page resource with some easy reading text and some sections for students to fill in, as well as a final resume template. The template at the end of the resource is where students can write their final version. 

How to use this resource

Work through the resource as a class or with a small group of students. Assist with reading the text if needed and guide students to the sections they need to fill in. Assist students to complete their final version of a resume before they choose a template online and make a copy to send to employers.

This resume writing challenge booklet is in PDF format with a digital overlay so it works well as a print and go document with students writing by hand or completing their answers using a device.
