Resource Description

Health literacy to learn about myths and facts is a great topic to cover in Health Science, PE and even English Language. It teaches young people to identify facts and myths and use critical reading and research skills to recognise misinformation and disinformation.

There are lots of health myths online including:

  • COVID-19
  • diet and weight loss trends
  • exercise
  • vaccines
  • vaping
  • medications
  • vegan and vegetarian foods

Many of these are shared on social media, and can be a potential risk for young people or adults who gain much of their information through forums, chats, groups and posts. This resource is a handy editable slide show that can be adapted to suit the age and needs of your class or group.

It shows students how to:

  • think about health information critically and carefully
  • use strategies to help spot a myth
  • identify reputable sources of information
  • think about dangers with products and medicines around the home

What's inside?

The slideshow includes 30 slides with tasks to complete and a mini project included.

The slideshow is editable so you can adjust the content and detail to suit your student group.

There is audio included for each slide allowing you to share the slideshow with students, have them play it in class or at home and free yourself up for more individual support time.

Who is it for?

  • Health Education
  • Psychology
  • Physical Education
  • Science (researching, finding evidence, supporting hypotheses, establishing trends)
  • English Language (critical reading and research skills)
