Resource Description

Fake news or health facts? - building health literacy for teens.

Fake news or health facts is an editable slideshow resource which helps high school students develop critical health literacy skills so they can discern fake news in health from reliable information. It can be used as a whole class introduction discussing the importance of media literacy and critical thinking skills, followed by a mini project where students independently research and analyze health information. Many students in high school rely on social media for all their news, and have trouble spotting fake news when they are seeking information online. This digital slideshow introduces fake news concepts, explains how to use the CRAAP model to review information online, shows students how fake news in health can be dangerous and includes activities so students can apply their skills and use their critical literacy.
