Bangarra Dance Theatre's production of Mathinna was created in 2008 and toured nationally in 2010. Inspired by the true story a girl's journey between two cultures, Mathinna traces the history of a young Aboriginal girl removed from her traditional life, adopted into Western colonial society to be ultimately returned to the fragments of her original heritage. This resource includes link to a film clip that is made up of a selection of excerpts from several of the 17 scenes that make up the whole dance work. Also provided is written information about the history of Bangarra, contextual background to the story of Mathinna, information about the creative processes, further references, curriculum alignment and classroom activities. Suitable for Years 9 - 10.
