Pull your socks up: one school’s move to penalise staff for not pledging their free time

Feeling the pressure to put in more time organising events and groups at your school in your free time? As this temporary teacher at a private school found recently, it wasn’t just a gentle nudge, but there were penalties for those who didn’t pull their weight. Apparently, this approach is standard at some private schools – how many we don’t know as no school I approached would discuss it, and the union representing teachers in independent schools failed to respond when contacted for comment.
