Parents called to scrutinise schools’ reading instruction approach
Parents are being urged to assess the reading instruction approach used at their child’s school, with prominent literacy education provider MultiLit warning too many still use methods that are ineffective at best and damaging at worst.
“Relying on predictable readers and promoting characters such as ‘Skippy Frog’ or ‘Eagle Eye’ might seem fun and harmless but all it does is instil unhelpful reading habits,” literacy expert Dr Jennifer Buckingham has warned.
