Literacy giant under fire for defending ‘discredited’ approach to reading instruction
Fountas & Pinnell Literacy, one of the biggest providers of literacy materials in the US, has found itself at the centre of a bitter social media storm after the company publicly defended their approach to reading instruction – an approach some experts and critics say doesn’t align with the science.
“Balanced literacy is an inherently murky concept, because no one can define it, and you get to do pretty much whatever you like, because anything is in scope if you're doing balanced literacy," professor Pamela Snow said.
