Job crafting: helping teachers deal with job demands by drawing on important resources

Teacher wellbeing has emerged as an increasingly important consideration for schools, education departments, and broader society. Contemporary media often focuses on the negative aspects of teacher wellbeing; however, it is critical to also consider positive aspects of teachers’ wellbeing and how to promote it. Helena Granziera is a PhD student in the Faculty of Education at the University of New South Wales, Australia. Helena is particularly interested in the psychological processes underpinning teacher wellbeing, self-efficacy, and job satisfaction, and how such factors relate to student outcomes. Helena’s methodological interests include structural equation modelling, confirmatory factor analysis, and latent profile analysis. Helena began her career as a health education teacher, and spent four years teaching gifted and talented students in primary school.

Andrew Martin, BA (Hons), MEd (Hons), PhD, is Scientia Professor, Professor of Educational Psychology, and Co-Chair of the Educational Psychology Research Group in the School of Education at the University of New South Wales, Australia specializing in motivation, engagement, achievement, and quantitative research methods. He is also Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford, Honorary Professor in the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney, Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Fellow of the American Educational Research Association, Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and President of the International Association of Applied Psychology’s Division 5 Educational and School Psychology. Rebecca Collie, B.Ed. (Hons), M.A., Ph.D., is a Scientia Research Fellow in Educational Psychology at the University of New South Wales. Her research interests focus on motivation and well-being among students and teachers, teachers' and students' psychosocial experiences at school (perceptions of school climate, job satisfaction, etc.), and quantitative research methods. Through her research, Rebecca aims to promote positive work environments and experiences among teachers as well as engagement and learning among students. She conducted her master’s and doctoral studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and her undergraduate education at the University of Melbourne.
