Crayola is excited to announce the launch of Crayola Creativity Week globally from January 23-29, 2023.  Crayola Creativity Week aims to nurture young kids’ minds with resources, giveaways and unique creator celebrity content to spark creativity. As the new school year nears and teachers prepare to re-ignite children’s excitement for learning after holiday breaks, Crayola is encouraging educators to make use of the free program to inspire creative, hands-on learning across the curriculum.

Crayola Creativity Week ties to key learning objectives, spotlighting creativity through visual art, dance, STEAM, and literacy. Crayola Creativity Week messages and experiences were designed to inspire students and help them express their ideas confidently. The program, which targets Primary School aged children, includes numerous educational resources; inspirational videos, daily challenges, downloadable Thinking Sheets, and most importantly the lively interactions between and with students. The learning experiences presented during the week, and in the extensions, can be implemented year-round and are intentionally aligned with education standards in multiple subject areas.

Cheri Sterman is Crayola’s Director for Education, and one of the top five child development experts in the United States.  Cheri’s education leadership spans from serving on professional association boards to teaching children, university students, and educators. Cheri helps educators understand creativity and build creative capacity. She translates research and best practices into professional learning experiences. “I am so excited to share information about Crayola Creativity Week, a global celebration of children’s creativity that features celebrity actors, visual artists, and musicians who will help kids see the connections between creativity and future career opportunities,” says Cheri.

Cheri continues, “Supporting Crayola’s mission to nurture children’s creative mindset and bring more creative opportunities to schools, after school programs, and homes, this year’s theme is “Turning Today’s Interests into Tomorrow’s Careers.” The main point expressed throughout Creativity Week is that when children apply creative thinking and express their ideas, every learning experience becomes richer and more engaging.”

“The program has been designed to assist teachers in the classroom, giving young creatives the space to let their originality shine. Learning through cross-curricular, creative learning experiences, creativity is a mindset that helps students learn about themselves, others, and the world around them. The lifelong skills of being innovative, learning from mistakes, and expressing one’s ideas with confidence are essential at every stage of human development.”

As well as spotlighting STEAM and Literacy, the daily content schedule is also focused on Self Expression, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Social Emotional Learning and Kindness. Each day’s activities take around 30 minutes.

Students will learn from various celebrities, and join space explorers, Broadway stars, comedians and illustrators in a read aloud and hands-on art making demonstration. Complete the daily creative challenge using Crayola’s downloadable, printable Thinking Sheet activities.  There’s also the opportunity for teachers to share their class’s artwork online to enter to win prize packs filled with Crayola products, books, tech, and more.
