The Federal Government’s new scholarship scheme for preservice teachers has drawn criticism from Catholic and independent school sectors, with Shadow Minister for Education Sarah Henderson denouncing it as an “unacceptable ideological attack” on non-government schools.

"Tying scholarships to a commitment to teach is an old school idea that will help tackle today's teacher workforce challenges," Education Minister Jason Clare said.
