About QETC's Student Wellbeing and Personal Development Program:

QETC's Student Wellbeing and Personal Development Program is based on a belief that an effective curriculum for youth offenders must include coverage of a wide range of general capabilities.

A model of desistance has informed the development of the Student Wellbeing and Personal Development Program with 10 factors underpinning the learning experiences provided.

The program is multifaceted and links to the school's Teaching and Learning Philosophy and Positive Behaviour for Learning program, as well as the Australian Curriculum (Version 9.0) Personal and Social Capability; the department's Student Learning and Wellbeing Framework and Respectful Relationships Education Program.

The key objective is to support young offenders to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens.

To provide tailored programs designed to build students' personal and social capabilities linked to the desistance model, through productive community partnerships and access to community-based support after their release.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of the Student Wellbeing and Personal Development Program at QETC.
  • Contribute to the review and ongoing improvement of programs
  • Work collaboratively with the school's education case management team to develop and foster relationships that assist students to engage positively with school while at QETC and remain engaged with education or training upon release.
  • Advise and provide strategies that may assist in developing a more positive experience for students attending wellbeing and personal development programs at QETC.
  • Monitor post program support as required and conduct one-on-one interviews with program attendees (students, youth workers, school support staff) to record and understand thoughts and experiences of individuals attending Wellbeing and Personal Development programs.
  • Develop and implement programs to support social and emotional wellbeing as required e.g. addressing social skills, assertiveness or self-esteem.
  • Be part of the professional team working with the school and the community and liaise with students, teachers, administrative officers, and other government departments who provide support to our students.
  • Work collaboratively with the PPO, and Operations Manager when required, to confirm daily timetable details are correct and in line with program requirements in calendar.
  • Oversee the distribution, collection, and collation of feedback forms to program support staff, program providers and students.
  • Inform new QETC staff attending program delivery in a support role, to the tasks required of them e.g. record role, feedback, dangerous goods checks, escorting etc.
  • Proactively contribute to identifying personal training and development needs and the means to address those needs, to maintain up to date knowledge, skills and abilities that ensure ongoing competence to achieve the required outcomes of the position as it develops.
  • Maintain strong relationships with employing organisation including attending relevant professional development.
