Position Information

Nimmitabel Public School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual for the position of Teaching Principal. The school is a small rural school in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, it stands on the lands of the Ngarigo people and is situated 35 kilometres from Cooma.

Nimmitabel Public School currently serving 13 students, including approximately 38% who identify as Aboriginal and 23% EALD, predominately draws from the rural areas of Nimmitabel and the surrounding Monaro region. Nimmitabel is a collaborative and proud rural community that thrive on community contributions and supporting the school.  

The school structure consists of one multi-grade class with one full time Teaching Principal. The part time staff include; two temporary classroom teachers, two School Learning Support Officers, a School Administration Manager and a General Assistant.

Nimmitabel Public School is well resourced and has excellent facilities, including well-maintained classrooms, a comprehensive library and natural surrounds that provide a peaceful and relaxed learning atmosphere. The main classrooms are fitted with interactive whiteboards and every student has access to school laptops and tablets to support student learning. The school provides a broad range of activities including the performing arts, cultural, leadership and sporting experiences, environmental education, and a kitchen garden program.   

Nimmitabel Public School is a member of the Eden – Monaro Small Schools Network, which supports staff to engage in evidence based professional learning and network with colleagues in other local small schools. The school is committed to improving student achievement and growth in both reading and numeracy, and a differentiated and individualised approach to learning supports student success in a multi – stage context. There is a focus on high-impact and explicit teaching practices, underpinned by researched-based professional learning and evidence-based best practice. The school places a strong emphasis on supporting student wellbeing and the school is committed to continuing to strengthen its partnership with the local community.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.

1.    Demonstrated ability to engage, inspire, and support staff with strong interpersonal and communication skills, balancing classroom teaching and complex administrative responsibilities as a teaching principal, while leading and fostering a culture of strong collaboration in curriculum delivery.

2.    Demonstrated capacity to be a proactive, approachable and visible leader with a commitment to promoting the school profile and building authentic connections with parents, carers, and the wider community to strengthen a culture of productive partnerships in education.

3.    Ability to foster an inclusive, collaborative and high-trust school culture, using authentic student voice to inform decision-making, strengthening staff collective responsibility for equity to support student wellbeing.

4.    Proven capacity to lead with an evaluative mindset and a focus on evidence informed practices to improve the learning of all students, and build the capability of all staff at Nimmitabel Public School and the surrounding small schools in the Eden-Monaro Network.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2017 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level TP1 for 2026.
