Position Information

Verona School is a School for Specific Purposes (SSP) dedicated to supporting students with complex mental health and behavioural needs. Our school has an enrolment of 105 students across two campuses: the main campus at Fairfield East and the secondary campus, Verona House, at Canley Vale. We have a richly diverse student cohort, with 30% Indigenous students and 20% of students from English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) backgrounds. Our school is committed to delivering an inclusive academic, social and emotional curriculum tailored to meet the significant and complex needs of our students.

 

Specific Selection Criteria

1.      Approval to teach ITX Technology Mandatory (Years 7–8) and approval and/or experience in teaching students with BCD Behaviour Difficulties, with a willingness to deliver DAT Design and Technology, VHF Hospitality – Food and Beverage, and ITW Industrial Technology – Timber, as well as additional Technology and VET courses, and to engage in relevant professional learning as required.

2.   Demonstrate experience and skills in developing and delivering engaging, differentiated, and inclusive lessons aligned with the NSW Curriculum and vocational training requirements, targeting students with complex learning needs in a special education context. 

3.   Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
including school staff, families and external providers, to enhance student learning, wellbeing and transition outcomes.

4.   Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of cultural and social diversity, including the needs of students with complex mental health and behavioural needs, and students from Indigenous and EAL/D backgrounds, through the implementation of evidence-based teaching practices that foster a safe, supportive, positive and inclusive learning environment.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

 

 

Special Notes

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain further skills in VET subjects. They will play a key role in establishing and delivering Technology and vocational skills programs, including supporting the newly established Industrial Arts/Technology classroom and two TAFE-certified kitchens being developed across both campuses. A strong commitment to special education and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team are essential.
