Position Information
Banora Point High School is a comprehensive secondary school located in the Tweed Coast area. The school pays respect to the traditional custodians, the Nganduwal and Goodginburra people of the Minjungbul speaking clans of the Bundjalung nation. The student population is approximately 525, with 10.6% identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and less than 2% coming from a non-English speaking background. Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach Visual Impairment (Primary) and Visual Impairment (Secondary).
2. High level communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with a proven capacity to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and external agencies, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and communities.
3. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department of Education’s relevant disability policies as well as the policies and protocols supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in culturally safe environments and respecting cultural practices.
4. Experience in teaching the use of braille, assistive technology and associated software including iOS applications to support access to the curriculum, as well as the ability to co-develop and monitor personalised learning and other relevant plans for students with visual impairments.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
Special Notes
This is a permanent part-time position of 2 days per week, 0.4FTE (full time equivalent).
Ability and willingness to travel between worksites.
