Position Information
Mount Warrigal Public School, located in the Shellharbour area on the South Coast of NSW, serves around 220 students from Preschool to Year 6. The school values a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student is known and cared for.
Reflecting cultural and socio-economic diversity, approximately 30% of students identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and 12% come from language backgrounds other than English. The school actively respects Aboriginal culture and partners with the local community to embed Aboriginal perspectives.
The school includes a support unit with four classes for students with additional learning needs, including an Early Intervention Unit, multicategorical classes, and a class for students with intellectual disabilities. An on-site preschool supports early childhood education and smooth transitions into Kindergarten.
Collaboration with families, local organisations, and schools in the Lake Learning Community underpins the school’s focus on student wellbeing, attendance, and belonging.
Specific Selection Criteria
• Approval to teach Special Education or demonstrated experience teaching students with physical disabilities, moderate intellectual disabilities and serve disabilities .
• Ability to develop, implement, and monitor age-appropriate, high-quality differentiated curriculum and teaching strategies tailored to individual students with complex needs, to maximise engagement and learning outcomes.
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills that promote collaboration with staff and positive partnerships with parents, carers, community members, support agencies, and students.
• Demonstrated commitment to Aboriginal education principles. Demonstrated ability to support Aboriginal students’ learning and wellbeing and build respectful relationships with Aboriginal families and community to promote inclusion.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
