Position Information

Mount Austin Public School is located in a large regional city, serving a diverse population within a low socio-economic community. There are currently 233 students who attend the school, representing 18 different nationalities. We proudly support a diverse school population including approximately 35% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 35% of students with English as a Second Language background. There is a mixture of highly experienced, mid-career and beginning teachers at the school. Mount Austin Public School also supports students through an IM class and an AU/IO support setting. 

 

Specific Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with mild to moderate intellectual disability, behaviour difficulties, emotional disturbances and/or autism.
  • Demonstrated well-developed communication and interpersonal skills to build effective partnerships with students, parents, staff, external agencies, and the school community.
  • Demonstrated classroom management skills that support the needs of a diverse range of students, including students with challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to design, deliver and evaluate differentiated teaching and learning programs for students.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies and a demonstrated willingness to enhance wellbeing, engagement, and attainment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
