Position Information
Chester Hill North Public School (enrolment 440 students including 86% from a non-English speaking background) has a rich learning environment. A dedicated mixed staff, of early career and experienced teachers, works collaboratively with a proactive parent community to enhance each student's well-being and academic outcomes in a cohesive school culture. Our whole staff vision includes "Focus on less, to achieve more through improved clarity and shared accountability, to move forward together as a team, so that all students can reach their full potential." The school is on a large site with upgraded classrooms, a staff centre, outdoor learning areas and a community hub. The school grounds have an attractive park-like presentation boasting gardens, trees and grass play areas, as well as tennis courts and three different play equipment areas. We have recently started a 3-year partnership with Real Schools to support whole school culture and well-being. We currently have 20 classes including 17 mainstream and 3 Autism classes.
The Itinerant Support Teacher Hearing (ISTH) is based at Chester Hill North Public School and travels to support students who are hearing impaired across a range of school settings, including those prior to school-age, preschool, primary school, high school, schools for specific purposes (SSP) and support classes. The enthusiastic and dedicated ISTH staff have a strong commitment to quality educational and social outcomes for all students from diagnosis to Year 12. The suitable applicant requires their own vehicle, a current driver’s licence and willingness to travel between work sites.
Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach Hearing Impairment, primary and/or secondary. Auslan desirable.
2. Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate differentiated learning plans to meet the complex needs of students who are hearing impaired across varied educational settings.
3. Demonstrated capacity and willingness to engage in a range of professional learning including hearing technology, Key Word Sign, Auslan and augmentative communication systems to support communication and equal access to the curriculum.
4. Demonstrate positive communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with a proven capacity to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and external agencies to meet the needs of students with hearing loss.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
