Position Information
Wakefield School is a School for Specific Purpose supporting students with complex mental health needs. We provide a safe, structured and inclusive environment where all students are supported to achieve their full potential.
In 2026, the school enrols 35 students, including 23% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, 50% in Out of Home or kinship care, and 31% with Autism and complex mental health needs.
The Classroom Teacher delivers differentiated teaching and learning programs that support students’ academic, social and emotional development. Teachers work collaboratively with families, carers and support staff to develop and implement individualised learning and wellbeing plans.
Teachers create structured, supportive classrooms and use evidence-based strategies to build students’ communication, independence, living and social skills. They foster positive relationships, support student wellbeing, and monitor and report on progress.
Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval and/or demonstrated experience teaching students in Years 7–12 with Autism and Emotional Disturbances
2. Expertise in effective classroom and behaviour management across cross-stage settings.
3. Proven ability to design and deliver high-quality, differentiated, and engaging teaching and learning programs that address diverse individual needs and support improved student engagement, wellbeing, and learning outcomes.
4. Highly developed communication, interpersonal, collaboration, and organisational skills, with a demonstrated capacity to work effectively as part of a team, build positive partnerships with students, families, staff, and external agencies, and contribute to whole-school initiatives.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

This is a permanent part time position for (4 days per week) 0.8FTE (full-time equivalent)
