Position Information

Kurnell Public School has an enrolment of approximately 214 students, including 4% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and 11% of students from a language background other than English. Located on the Kurnell peninsula of Botany Bay, the school is at the centre of a close-knit community and maintains strong connections with families, local organisations and the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group. School priorities include explicit and differentiated teaching, consistent assessment practices, student wellbeing, Positive Behaviour for Learning and High Potential and Gifted Education. The successful applicant will teach an identified syllabus area across K–6 and manage and develop an inclusive, curriculum-responsive library collection. They will collaborate with staff to resource curriculum delivery, strengthen information literacy and research skills, promote quality literature and foster a whole school culture of reading. Classroom teachers facilitate regular student borrowing outside the allocated library teaching time.

Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Approval to teach K–6 and approval to teach primary library, or currently undertaking Teacher Librarian qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education.

  2. Demonstrated capacity to plan, implement and assess high-quality, differentiated teaching and learning programs across K-6, with the flexibility to teach an identified syllabus area and integrate information literacy, research skills and quality literature.

  3. Demonstrated capacity to establish safe, inclusive and engaging learning environments through effective classroom management practices and positive relationships that support the participation and achievement of all students.

  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a primary school library, with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff, families and the wider school community, resource curriculum delivery, strengthen information literacy and foster a whole school culture of reading.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

 

 

Special Notes

This is a permanent part-time position for 2 days 0.4FTE.

It is anticipated that this position will commence on day of the 2027 school year.

If applicable engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the Teacher Librarian qualifications as recognised by the NSW Department of Education, which must be completed within 24 months.
