Position Information

Hoxton Park High School is a coeducational comprehensive school located in south-west Sydney, with an enrolment of approximately 918 students. The school has a diverse student population, with 82% from language backgrounds other than English (LBOTE) and approximately 3.5% identifying as Aboriginal. It also includes a dedicated support unit. We have implemented effective literacy and numeracy initiatives and offer a broad range of academic courses, VET frameworks, SBATs and TAFE options. The EAL/D teacher position will work within the Learning and Support Faculty to facilitate the delivery and implementation of literacy focused teaching and learning activities. The teacher will also support students from diverse learning backgrounds to improve their reading comprehension and writing skills. The role is considered a whole-school position, and the applicant is required to work collaboratively with all KLAs through co-teaching practices, demonstrating their extensive knowledge and skills in literacy and EAL/D pedagogy. 

Specific Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach English as an Additional Language/Dialect or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in English as an Additional Language/Dialect qualification approved by the NSW Department of Education

  • Demonstrated ability to support students from EAL/D backgrounds, employing strategies that promote language acquisition.

  • Proven experience working collaboratively within the Learning and Support Faculty to develop resources and implement programs and projects aimed at enhancing literacy and/or numeracy across the school

  • Willingness to teach Stage 4 EAL/D Literacy classes

  • Demonstrated capacity to provide support to students from refugee, international and newly arrived backgrounds to address their learning and wellbeing

  • Evidence of high-level communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively and co-teach with KLA teachers to deliver literacy-focused lessons that integrate EAL/D pedagogy and practices

     

     

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

 

 

Special Notes

If applicable, engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the Teacher English as an additional language or dialect qualifications as recognised by the NSW Department of Education which must be completed within 12 months.
