Westmead PS is a large multicultural school with a student population of 709 students K-6, 98% of whom come from a Language Background other than English. In 2026 we welcomed our new support class. The school has an outstanding reputation for excellence in student academic achievement and growth. Westmead PS has an extensive creative and performing arts program culminating in an annual performance at Riverside Theatre. We also offer additional opportunities for sporting growth and success through involvement in gala days and external competitions including the Wanderers Cup for soccer.
Westmead PS has a proud partnership with Community Hubs Australia, a not-for-profit organisation that supports culturally diverse families. The school Community Hub is a valuable resource that helps bridge the gap between families and the wider community and helps to deepen home and school connections. In Term 3 construction of our new school facilities commences which will give us new state of the art learning spaces and a brand-new school hall.
General Selection Criteria
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
Specific Selection Criteria

A highly visible, consultative leader with outstanding communication skills, who has a demonstrated expertise in working strategically with the school executive, staff, students, parents and carers to broaden opportunities and strengthen relationships across the school community.
Capacity to lead and maintain a collaborative culture that builds the capability of teachers and leaders maximising collective efficacy, focussed on research based, high-quality teaching and learning.
An outstanding leader who values and understands student and staff wellbeing and is committed to ensuring every student is known, valued and cared for, engaging all students in their own learning and success.
Strategic use of whole school and system data to track student growth and achievement with a demonstrated capacity to manage complexity around student need and ensuring support for learners from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Classification Structure for Principals:
The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P3 for 2026.
