Position Information
Dungog High School is situated in a small regional township north of Newcastle NSW. Students who attend the school come from local towns and small communities within the Dungog Shire. Enrolment numbers are consistently around 550 students including a growing proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students that represent approximately 15% of the student body, and a Special Education unit. The school is aligned with our primary partner schools to form genuine partnerships in education known as the Dungog District Community of Schools. There are several significant groups within the school, including a Junior AECG, SRC and student voice plays a strong part in all aspects of the school. Our P&C is an active and supportive element of the Dungog High School community.
Dungog High School offers a curriculum that challenges and meets individual needs, with a strong focus on quality relationships, in a supportive learning culture that inspires learning. The school is progressing in its implementation of explicit teaching. Academic, cultural, sporting and vocational courses are offered through core and elective options. These programs are focused on Senior Studies, Technology and developing Innovative Pedagogy for engagement.
The curriculum delivery is enhanced with a rich array of extra-curricular opportunities that include excursions, sporting events, drama and musical performances throughout the school and wider community, Science and Technology days, and intellectual and cultural pursuits such as chess, debating and public speaking competitions, and hospitality catering for events on and off site.

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Proven performance in leading quality teaching and learning, focused on delivering public education priorities.
- A highly visible and approachable leader who fosters a culturally responsive and inclusive school community through collaborative and authentic engagement with all members.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain a positive staff culture grounded in high expectations, where teachers are inspired and empowered to achieve excellence that results in improvement in learning and wellbeing outcomes for students.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P3 for 2026.
