Position Information
Kurnell Public School is the centre of a unique community situated on the Kurnell peninsula of Botany Bay. The school has 212 students with diverse learning needs and from a variety of backgrounds. Staff collaboration is strong, as is a willingness to adopt change and embrace new challenges. Kurnell is a small caring community where parents and community feel a shared responsibility for the wellbeing of all students. Learning programs are enhanced by the use of the local National Park and beaches. The school has strong links to the community and values its ties with local and nearby industry, and the local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG). The school collaborates with the 'By the Sea' Community of Schools and schools across the Sutherland Shire which enhances extra-curricular opportunities in sport, leadership, technology, and creative and performing arts

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Proven capacity to lead staff to effectively implement differentiated learning across the curriculum that meets the diverse needs of students and improve outcomes for all students.
Evidence of highly visible leadership with a proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships across the entire school community.
Demonstrated capacity to lead a high expectations culture, driven by evidence informed innovation, to support engagement and wellbeing

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P1 for 2026.
