Job Title: SEN Personal Assistant
The Role:
We are looking for caring, reliable and proactive Personal Assistants to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs in developing their independence, confidence and everyday life skills.
Working across specialist schools, alternative provisions, community environments, you will provide personalised one-to-one support based around each young person's individual needs, interests and goals. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships and wants to make a positive difference outside of traditional classroom-based support. You may support with life skills, social skills, personal care, emotional regulation, sensory needs, communication, community activities and independence.
Key Responsibilities:
One-to-One Support - Provide personalised support based on the individual's needs, abilities, interests and goals.Life Skills - Help develop independence with everyday activities such as cooking, personal hygiene, organisation, travel and safety.Social Skills - Encourage positive communication, friendships, confidence, turn-taking and appropriate social interaction.Emotional Regulation - Help individuals recognise and manage emotions using appropriate regulation strategies, routines and positive relationships.Sensory Support - Provide sensory activities and regulation opportunities tailored to individual sensory preferences and needs.Communication - Support individuals to communicate their needs, choices and feelings using verbal and non-verbal communication, visuals or communication aids where appropriate.Personal Care - Where required, provide respectful support with personal care, hygiene, dressing, eating and other daily routines.Building Confidence - Encourage individuals to try new experiences, make choices and develop greater independence.Positive Behaviour Support - Use calm, consistent and positive approaches when supporting individuals experiencing distress or challenging behaviour.Strong Collaboration - Work closely with parents, carers, teachers, SENCOs, therapists and other professionals to ensure consistent support.Safeguarding & Record Keeping - Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain accurate records of activities, progress, concerns and incidents where required.Requirements:
A genuine passion for supporting children and young people to become more independent.Patient, compassionate and respectful approach.Ability to build trusting and positive relationships.Strong communication and active listening skills.Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm during challenging situations.Reliable, responsible and able to work independently.Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.Willingness to support personal care where required.Understanding of safeguarding and the importance of promoting the individual's dignity and well-being.Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory.
