THE ROLE:

To ensure CENT payroll management processes are timely, accurate and compliant all of the time and that consolidated payroll processing requirements are met. Ensure that employee record keeping is comprehensive and up to date and that employee benefits and records are properly maintained and actioned (PAYG, Salary Sacrifice, FBT, STP, and end-of-year tax submissions).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

  • Effectively lead and supervise the payroll function to ensure timely and accurate payment of staff wages and entitlements.
  • Take the lead as a subject matter expert on terms and conditions of employment for CENT including EBA Award and legislative obligations.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of the payroll function service delivery to the Deputy Director School Services.
  • Manage upwards dealing with senior stakeholders consolidating the payroll function across 18 schools.
  • Lead by example, adhere to all legislative, governance and organisational protocols, and act at ATO contact for all payroll-related matters.
  • Lead the payroll team and stakeholders in ongoing professional development.

Payroll

  • Process fortnightly payroll, post-payroll obligations and reporting including end-of-month and year payroll processing, and respond to staff queries in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with all compliance and record-keeping requirements.
  • Engage with HR throughout the employee life-cycle including on-boarding, changing employment terms and conditions as appropriate and exiting staff.
  • Monitor all accruals reporting anomalies as appropriate to the Deputy Director School Services.
  • Ensure the payroll function performs end-of-period closing procedures, including the major contribution to the preparation for the end-of-year audit, for employee entitlement and obligations.
  • Calculate and process all employee benefit accruals, FBT, taxations, PAYG/STP, and salary packaging/sacrifice in accordance with ATO requirements in a timely and accurate manner.

POSITION PREREQUISITES

  • Relevant qualifications in payroll and taxation
  • A minimum of three (5) years’ payroll experience.
  • Current Working with Children Check Ochre Card.
